In the realm of homemade health and beauty products, this coconut-lime sugar scrub ranks as one of my favorites. My homeschool friend Sarah gave me a sample as a hostess gift during a play date, and I’ve been making it ever since.
Sarah uses her coconut-lime sugar scrub as a homemade shaving gel, and for good reason. Your legs will definitely feel silky smooth. But I’ve recently started using it as an all-over, exfoliating body wash. Its exfoliating power is fantastic, the perfect solution for those winter-weary, dry heels. Now that garden season has begun, it’s the perfect remedy to dry and dirty garden hands. I’ve even used this coconut-lime sugar scrub on dry, cracked lips.
In addition, this concoction moisturizes beautifully. Sometimes, I don’t even have to use any lotion after my shower. As a multi-tasking mom, it’s great when I find a multi-tasking beauty product. It even smells nice. The fact that I can make it in a few minutes on-the-cheap, and that it lasts a long time, is just icing on the cake… make that coconut-lime icing! 🙂
Here’s how to make it.
Ingredients:
1 cup coconut oil (If you’re not used to buying coconut oil, you’ll find it in the baking aisle at your grocery store. It comes as a solid.)
1 ½ cups sugar in the raw, or turbinado sugar (Again, found in the baking aisle. I buy mine in the 2-pound bulk box.)
Lime juice to taste (Not that you’re eating it! Ha! It’s best to use fresh-squeezed juice, but this was what I had on hand.)
Instructions:
1. Mix all the ingredients together in your mixer.
2. Store in a sealed container.
3. During your shower, simply take a palm-full of scrub and rub it in. Rinse as usual.
Optional add-ins:
For an extra coconut boost, add some coconut flakes. You can also add some lime zest, if you want a stronger lime smell.
Note: This is a recipe that can be adjusted and altered to suite your taste. Play with the ratio of coconut oil and sugar scrub, and add more or less lime juice as you see fit. That’s the beauty of homemade health and beauty products!
Still use it almost every day! 🙂
Me, too! So glad you shared it with me! 🙂
