Think you don’t have time for a hot breakfast at home? Think again. In three minutes or less, you can be eating a super simple scrambled egg or breakfast sandwich—without turning on the stove.
Just crack an egg in a glass bowl, scramble it with a small fork, and add salt and pepper, if desired. Pop the bowl in the microwave for 30 seconds. Take it out for a couple of seconds, then cook the egg for another 30 seconds. (Breaking up the cooking time will keep the egg from expanding too much and spilling out the top of the bowl.)
Bonus: The egg will be the perfect shape for an English muffin or bagel breakfast sandwich. Toast the English muffin or bagel while you’re cooking the egg; add the cooked, scrambled egg—and cheese, if you like—and microwave the sandwich for another 30 seconds.
In less time than it would take to go through the drive through at your favorite fast-food place, you’ll have a hot, healthy breakfast with no extra oils or preservatives. Even better: you’ll save a ton of money by eating at home.
Prep time: 30 seconds
Cook time: 2 minutes, tops
Note: Save yourself some time at the kitchen sink by wiping out the bowl right away. The egg will stick, and it’s much easier to clean while the bowl is still warm.
Let’s see…$1.39/dozen eggs divided by 12 = $.12 for the egg; $.99 for a package of 6 English muffins divided by 6 = $.17 for the English muffin; a tablespoon of shredded cheddar cheese, plus salt, pepper, and the energy to run the microwave…
We’re easily looking at $.50 or less for the entire sandwich. Plus, you save the gas you would waste while sitting in line at the drive through. (I’m betting this sandwich is fewer calories, too!)
Yum-wish I had seen this post this morning before I went and spent $3.25 on one! How much did yours cost approx?
